Long, Killer Workout...and Fun! February 27, 2002 mwreview (Northern California, USA) 53 out of 54 found this review helpful
I work out with step aerobic videos 4-7 days a week, and this one is one of my favorites. I save this video for the weekend or days off because it is very long (1 hour and 22 minutes), but it is worth the time. The first segment is the step workout that lasts about 38 minutes. It has a long warmup and a very fun step routine. Cher and the gang obviously had a blast filming this workout, and it rubs off on the viewer. The music used is also cool ("Missionary Man" by the Eurythmics, "All Right Now" by Free, etc.) The cool down is very short, however. You do a few lunges and stretches and that's it. If you do the entire video though (which I would recommend), you get a better cool down at the end. The step workout is at an intermediate level. Nothing too fancy and only a few power moves which are optional (of course, the user can always add propulsion). The second segment is a ten-minute ab workout. On many aerobics videos, additional ab routines are very short (maybe 3 or 4 sets at 8 reps each). This ab workout is ten minutes non-stop with very tiny pulses. One of the best ab routines I've found. The final segment is by far the toughest. It is 32 minutes of leg toning. Squats, lunges, leg raises, you name it. The first part of this segment is the most challenging. You will feel the burn big time! Once you get to the leg raises, it gets much easier but still challenging. The last part isolates the inner thighs. Instructor Keli Roberts does an excellent job explaining proper body alignment for each of the moves. Finally, there is a cool-down stretch (you'll need it). Cher is there through the whole video and adds her own comments during some of the segments. New Attitude gives you an all-around, full body workout!
After 11 years, this is still the best video workout January 24, 2003 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
I'm on my third copy of this tape, and after 11 years, this workout is still the most complete, effective and fun to do. Although Cher and some of the others in the tape are the pinnacle of body sculpting, there are others on screen that represent more down to earth body types, and the workout is clearly explained and presented at all fitness levels. A step adds to the intensity, but all the exercizes can be done on the floor.Keli Roberts, the instructor, is exceptionally informative and inspiring, and the moves are challenging, yet uncomplicated enough for beginners, including clutzy beginners, to learn in a short time. And the routines are fun and imaginative enough to inspire the most advanced users. Cher and friends have some lively kibbitzing going, and do a good job in keeping the video unintimidating. When compared with other tapes, this workout is excellent in its thoroughness and emphasis on breathing and safety. A BIG plus is that it uses "real" pop music, and Cher's tunes aren't even half of the numbers included; songs like Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacherman" add to the fun. When compared to the canned, cheezy synthetic music on other exercise videos, this tape rocks. I couldn't recommend any other tape more highly.
Non Cher Fan Loves It for Abs June 11, 2003 Dawn M. Mikulich (Chicago, IL USA) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
I am so not a Cher fan. In fact, I don't even remember what made me buy this tape several years ago.I do know that I have never found a more concise, effective ab workout on a tape before. I've never really used the other programs on the tape as I do other aerobic activities. I was basically looking for guidance in toning my abdominals. This tape is perfect for that. The ab workout is 10 minutes, but will leave you feeling like you accomplished something and you really do. It's the one tape that I keep putting in the VCR. I only wish there was a DVD version so that I didn't have to keep rewinding or fast forwarding to the desired section.
Stuck on Cher Fitness for 8 1/2 Years! March 7, 2000 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This has been my favorite exercise video since December 1991. I literally crave this video. During a recent move I lost my tape. Since then I have been going crazy with out it. This is such a fun workout that I find myself just jumping up and popping it in. There are other times when I finish the Step portion I just rewind the tape for a second go round. Celebrity videos usually don't impress me because they look so rehearsed. What makes Cher Fitness unique is that Cher is not really that great during the workout, and she is learning and working right along with you.
Really good October 23, 2000 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Okay, so if you're super fit the step work out may not be a challenge for you. But for the rest of us, it gets the heart pumping. There are three sections to this tape. 40 min of step aerobics, 10 min of abs (that I can't do all of yet it's that hard--and I'm in pretty good shape) and 30 min of leg work that HURTS. My only dislike to this video (but I have this problem with most workout videos) is that they skimp on true stretching. But that is understandable since it is really boring to do watch people hold stretches (that hurt) for 30 seconds or more. Like I said, the lack of stretching is nothing new. Other problem is the cool down from the step. She just has you stop and begin stretching, which if you need to take a longer time to cool down can be a bit of a jolt. But if you do the rest of the video afterwards, this is not a big problem. The good points. A perfectly adequate warm-up. As mentioned before a lovely, gut wrenching step workout (bring water and lots of it, you'll need it). Simple steps in several different levels. I love that Cher doesn't do everything perfectly. Near the end of the step workout you can tell she is tired and she stops using her arms. It made me feel much better about feeling tired. And an absolutely painful but good abs and legs workout. This is great for beginners and intermediate exercisers. Usually I do this video about every other day (except weekends which I give myself a break on) and on alternate days I lift hand weights and do lots of stretching. With the help of this video I feel and look so much better, to quote Cher on the back of the video, in and out of my clothes. I highly recommend it.
