Author: Tamar Geller

Long known as a dog coach to the stars?her clients include Oprah Winfrey, Ben Affleck, Courteney Cox-Arquette, Owen Wilson, Natalie Portman, and Larry King?Tamar Geller changed the way Americans relate to their dogs with her bestselling book The Loved Dog. Her approach is simple and down-to-earth. Instead of utilizing the negative and often painful feedback of physical dominance, choke chains, and prong collars, Tamar recommends love, play, and mutual respect as the keys to a happy home for dog and human alike.

Now, Tamar makes her Loved Dog? Method accessible for everyone with this day-by-day guide that will lead you through the first thirty days with your new dog?or help you make a fresh start with your current dog. Drawing on her studies of wolves in the wild and basing her method on the principles of child development, Tamar uses an “instincts versus choice” approach that satisfies a dog?s Seven Basic Needs and will result in a pet with good manners.

30 Days to a Well-Mannered Dog covers every question commonly asked by people embarking on the momentous journey of dog ownership: why it?s important to choose the appropriate dog for you and your lifestyle, what you can expect from a puppy versus an adult dog, how to introduce your new dog to your home, and how to respond when things don?t go according to plan. Tamar guides you every step of the way, from addressing undesired behaviors in your dog to crate and paper training him to introducing him to other dogs and helping him become relaxed with strangers. Included are important but often overlooked tips about the use of words and body language to communicate, the power of play, and the amazing value of teaching your dog some lighthearted pet tricks.

Along the way, Tamar debunks myths in need of debunking: that dogs are frequently “alpha” by nature and need to be dominated; that discipline is the key to dog training, and that “success” only means getting your dog to do what you want. Instead, she shows how to align your dog’s wishes with your own to create a rich and enduring relationship that works wonderfully for you both.

Gentle, firm, and effective, 30 Days to a Well-Mannered Dog will build your relationship with your dog to make every new day together a day of love, joy, and discovery.?

Author: Charles Hrh The Prince Of Wales

For the first time, HRH The Prince of Wales shares his views on how our most pressing modern challenges?from climate change to poverty?are rooted in mankind’s disharmony with nature, presenting a compelling case that the solution lies in our ability to regain a balance with the world around us

With its holistic approach, this provocative and well-reasoned book takes the discussion of sustainability and climate change in a new direction. Prince Charles shows how the solutions to problems like climate change lie not only in technology but in our ability to change the way we view the modern world.

For decades, the Prince of Wales has been studying a wide array of disciplines to understand every aspect of man’s impact on the natural world, and in that time he has examined everything from architecture to organic farming to sustainable economics. Now, for the first time, he speaks out about his years of research, presenting a fascinating look at how modern industrialization has led us to a state of disharmony with nature, created climate change, and pushed us to the brink of disaster.

From the rice farms of India to the prairies of America’s corn belt, from the temples of Ancient Egypt to the laboratories of industrial designers, Harmony spans the globe to identify the different ways that contemporary life has abandoned the hard-earned practices of our history, a shift that has spurred a host of social problems and accelerated climate change.

Drawing on cases from farming, healthcare, transportation, and design, the Prince of Wales also offers solutions for change, creating a new vision for our world, one that incorporates the traditional wisdom of our past with the modern science of our present to avert catastrophe. In the end, Harmony paints a holistic portrait of what we as a species have lost in the modern age, while outlining the steps we can take to regain the harmony of our ancestors.

Illustrated with lush, four-color photographs and charts, this intelligent, practical, and well-reasoned guide is an indispensable weapon in the battle to save our planet.

Author: Apolo Anton Ohno

?Zero regrets. It?s a philosophy not just about sport but about life. School, business, academics, love?anything and everything. It?s complicated and yet not. You have to figure out who it is you want to be. Not what you want to be?who. There has to be a vision, a dream, a plan. Then you chase that with everything you?ve got.?

Over three consecutive Olympic games, Apolo Ohno has come to symbolize the very best of the competitive spirit?remaining equally gracious in victory and defeat, always striving to improve his performance, and appreciating the value of the hard work of training as much as any reward it might bring. In Zero Regrets, Apolo shares the inspiring personal story behind his remarkable success, as well as the hard-won truths and strategies he has discovered in good times and bad.

Raised by his single father, an immigrant from Japan who often worked twelve-hour days, the young Apolo found it difficult to balance his enormous natural gifts as an athlete with an admittedly wild, rebellious streak. After making a name for himself as a promising young speed skater, his career was almost over before it began when his lack of preparation caused him to finish last at the U.S. Olympic trials in 1998. A life-changing week of solitary soul-searching at the age of fifteen led him to recommit himself to his training, and at the 1999 world junior championships he won first place overall?one of the most remarkable turnarounds in sports history. From that moment on, the world of speed skating had a new champion and Apolo was on his way to legendary status.

Much more than an account of races won and lost, Zero Regrets is a compelling portrait of a father-and-son relationship that deepened over time and was based on respect, love, and unshakable faith in each other. For the first time, Apolo reveals what he knows about his long-absent mother; he makes us feel what it is like to face the best competitors on the planet with the eyes of millions of fans upon you; and he shares his secrets for achieving total focus and mental toughness, secrets that can be applied in situations well beyond sports. We learn the details of the unbelievably intense workout and diet that he endured while training for the 2010 Winter Olympics, a regime that literally reshaped his body and led to some of his most thrilling victories.

In this deeply personal and entertaining book, Apolo shows how we can all come closer to living with zero regrets. While Apolo?s own journey may be unique, the insights he has gleaned along the way have the power to help us all feel like champions every day.

***?

?

Nine days after dropping me off, Dad came to pick me up.

In that call from the pay phone, I hadn?t said anything to him about what decision I had made. On the car ride back home, I told him. ?I want to try this,? I said.

?Are you willing,? he asked, ?to really put forth a true effort? From the bone??

I told my father: ?I want to skate.?

With clarity of purpose, everything suddenly seemed different. I didn?t just want to skate?I loved it. I realized, too, that while I had to want to buy into the training, the discipline, the self-sacrifice, I needed direction and guidance, too. You truly can?t get there by yourself. I needed not only to truly and profoundly depend upon Dad for help but also to welcome those?coaches, trainers, others?who could help me along the way. . . .

I was also making promises to myself and writing them in my journal:

I?m not going to mess it up this time. When I go home, I really am going to be the different person I decided in Iron Springs I would be. I know what I want to do. I want to be the best in the world.

I didn?t know quite yet how I would get there. But I was clear, and I had no doubt? that?s what I was after.
